In today’s landscape, dominated by the fleeting nature of algorithms, the decision to spin a single composition into multiple arrangements often comes across as a mere promotional tactic to boost streaming numbers. However, the New York-based project Energy Whores, led by Carrie Schoenfeld in partnership with Grant (NYC) and guitarist Attilio Valenti, subverts this commercial logic with their EP ‘Invisible’. Spanning four tracks and 14 minutes, the release challenges the traditional concept of the “remix,” offering instead a rigorous study of how music production alters the emotional perception of the same set of lyrics.
The title track explores the anguish of being ignored in a hyper-connected society, a recurring theme in the group’s work, which is known for its satirical edge and social commentary. Rather than locking this narrative into a single aesthetic, the duo deconstructs the song into four stylistic approaches: Synth-Pop, Lo-Fi, Cinematic, and Indie.
